NEPAL EXPEDITION
November 2020
LIFE IN THE RIVER
A unique experience!
Traveling by rivers means being able to reach the most secret places on Earth.
Places accessible only to those who move by water, where there are no roads. Our travels - expeditions are a mixture of nature, adventure, action, culture, group. No need to be a rafting expert! It is sufficient to participate in the preparation day that we will do in Valle d'Aosta, in Pré Saint Didier on the pre-established dates. Our expedition trips are for enterprising, energetic and flexible people, curious with a positive attitude. If you have already done some camping, it helps and, if it is the first experience, you learn quickly. Everyone actively participates not only in life in the river, but also in less noble works such as setting up curtains, loading rafts, and whoever wants in the kitchen too! A simple life, with the elements, in good company, in unique places.
TREKKING & RAFTING
Tamur River
Tamur is the easternmost river in Nepal . It flows near the border with Sikkim, India .
Born from one of the great 8000, the Kanchenjunga and flows with a good slope until the confluence with the Sun Koshi, in Tribenighat, forming the huge Sapta Koshi (1) which folds south through the hills of Mahabharat, reaching the plain of the Ganges .
(1) Sapta Koshi means 7 rivers. The tributaries that form it are Indrawati, Bhote Koshi, Tamba Koshi, Dudh Koshi, Liku, Arun, Tamur.
The adventure starts from Kathmandu , the capital of Nepal , a multicolored city, a city of merchants, of wonderful local craftsmanship, a destination for all travelers and the departure of many Himalayan itineraries.
By plane and bus we cross Nepal eastwards to Basantapur, a small village at the end of the carriage road.
From here we organize all the equipment that we will use in the river in packages, which the porters will carry on foot through the mountains.
With them we will walk for three days in a wonderful trekking through mountains, meeting small villages, temples, accompanied by friendly smiles of the locals, until we reach the Tamur valley.
If we are lucky, November is usually the best month, we will have breathtaking scenery of the great 8000 like Makalu and Kanchenjunga.
Once in Dobhan, we will camp on the banks of the Tamur and after organizing all the river equipment we start sailing.
Tamur awaits us with its crystal clear water. We will have 7 days to know its secrets; we will sail in complete self-sufficiency for almost 180 km, alternating the great rapids with the quiet sections where we will simply let ourselves be carried by the current.
Life on the river is a wonderful adventure. You get up early in the morning, prepare a hearty breakfast and take the field apart. All equipment is carefully loaded and tied onto inflatable boats, already organized in watertight containers and bags. A little yoga as "warm up" and you start surfing.
We will spend 3-5 hours in the water every day.
We stop along the banks for lunch and continue until we reach the best beach, where we mount the camp again for the night.
BEER O'CLOCK: a good aperitif and snacks and it's time for dinner, sitting on the ground around the fire, chatting under the stars, telling us the anecdotes of the day.
November 6
Arrival in Kathmandu. At the Kathmandu international airport, the staff of Totem Adventure will welcome you and organize a taxi transfer to the capital. Hotel accommodation and relaxation.
November 7

November 8
Internal flight Kathmandu - Biratnaghar. A breathtaking flight following the great peaks: the Cho yu, the Sagaramāthā (Everest in Nepalese) and many others. Landed in the tropical village of Biratnagar the bus with all the equipment will wait for us (already traveling for two days), with which we will move to Basantapur. Overnight in the camp or refuge, depending on the time of arrival.
November 9-12 (trekking)
Preparation of porters for the 4-day trek where we will cross the Milke Danda mountain ranges. As for the river, here too we will sleep in the "1000-star hotel ..." We will pass through the villages of Chouki, Gurpha Pokhari and Gorjia, until we arrive in Dobhan, where we will prepare the rafts, leave the porters and begin the descent of the Tamur. We will walk in altitudes between 2500 and 3500 meters, so without altitude sickness problems, but it can be very cold at night. From here we will see the most famous 8000: Everest, Makalu and Kanchenjunga.
November 13-18 (rafting)
Top class rafting in the incredible rapids of Tamur. We tried to count them ... we stopped at 110 because we lost count. One rapid more beautiful than the other. Rafting on Tamur to the confluence with the Sun Koshi river.
November 18
Rafting on Tamur to the confluence with the Sun Koshi river and departure for Kathmandu. You travel by bus all night and arrive the next morning.

Can I participate in the expedition even if I have only done rafting once in Italy?
THE ANSWER IS YES'. SURE YOU CAN DO IT!
No need to be a rafting expert! It is sufficient to participate in the day of preparation for the trip in the Aosta Valley.
HOW MUCH?
Those who have already traveled with us know our philosophy: to give participants the opportunity to choose "how to travel."
The basic cost refers to the journey from Kathmandu to Kathmandu. We also offer a range of additional services which you can take advantage of if you wish. If you are a "do it yourself" traveler you can only choose the "Basic" package and you organize the logistics before and after the shipment. (international flights, domestic flights, hotels, taxi transfers ...) If this is your first time traveling to Asia, we recommend taking the "Kathmandu no problem" package.
